It shouldn't be too difficult, seeing as how Scotland would be a once in a life time kinda thing for me, so it should be simple. There will always be other conventions, but... I don't think people understand what Otakon would mean to me.
Soo... some pro's and cons about going to Scotland:
Pro:
* ... er... I get to go to Scotland? That in itself is awesome, cause I've ALWAYS wanted to go.
* It would be pretty epic and fun, I get to do theatre work which always makes me happy.
* I'd be there for two weeks.
* It's way cheaper then if I went with my family for two weeks...
Con:
* It's still about $3000.... I just have no idea how I'd get the money
* I'd have to work my bootay off. >.<
* I don't know what I'd do for food... (for those that don't know, I'm an EXTREMELY picky eater... like you don't even understand until you've been out with me)
* I'd miss Otakon and my friends. :C
Now for the pro's and Con's of Otakon
Pro:
* ROAD TRIP!
* It's a convention people, and an out of state convention at that! <3
* Cosplay... haha...
* It's less expensive then Scotland... by like.... a lot.
Con:
* I'd miss Scotland...
* ... honestly, this is about the only Con I can think of... maybe other then little fights we might get into... but heck... we can just get over it. XP
So yeah... the dates to Scotland are July 29th-August 14th
Otakon, is the weekend in between these dates. XD;
See my dilemma? It's not that I couldn't just like... save up money for both... no... They just happen at the same time. -sigh-
At this moment in time, this is my solution, I've got until March 1 to decide... If I have a job by then, and have at least $300 for the deposit (due that day), I'll probably end up going to Scotland. If not, then it looks like I might possibly go to Otakon. There's also a possibility I wouldn't be able to go to either, but my mom has already kinda agreed to me going to either or. I just have to fix my financial problems myself...

Don't pass up Scotland for some old convention
*Starts singing Lemonade*
In my opinion, I would probably go to Otakon. Granted, I'm odd like that and normally I would recommend traveling abroad over anything. But I understand why you want to go to Otakon. If it were me, I'd value the time spent with friends over the experience. And yes, Scotland may be once-in-a-lifetime, but you're still young and the opportunity to travel with most definitly present itself again as long as you're willing to make it happen. (And by that time will have better means to save up.) I passed up a three-week trip to Italy, and was really bummed about it. But now, I'm living in Korea and traveling all over Asia. So, you never know. If you give up this chance, something better may come along. ^_^ Plus, you seem like the "go get 'em" type, so I'm sure you'll be able to travel around the world if you want.
But go with what you want, my dear. It's your choice. ^_^ Go with what you think you'll enjoy the most and what is good for you now. Either way, sounds like you need to get to work saving up! ^^
but animecons are amazing too
[that's how I'd go about it]
Well, one thing is getting to visit some other country and seeing something new. Though it is -very- expensive, you would need a lot of money saved up.
Otakon with friends. Well at least you know for a fact that you would have a good time. I think the time you spend with people you love or have fun with is more important than going sightseeing.
Either way, both things will always be there, and you could always plan in your later years to go on the trip to Scotland. I would choose to enjoy some time with good buddies especially if I didn't see them often.
As well, the choice rests in your hands. Going to Scotland would be amazing, but you know we'd love to have you with us to and at Otakon. ^.^ I know you'll figure it out and enjoy it either way.
I think theres another con to otaku-despite the fun it is, does it ever really change? As everyone else seems to say, scotland could be a once a million chance-you never know what will happen.
But still, the its your decision, and whatever you choose, you still have something youd enjoy doing.
Peace.
But yes, Scotland would be amazing. X3
